VFA Raises Vietnam Rice Export Target

Vietnam Food Association (VFA) has raised its 2017 rice export target to around 5.6 million tons from 5.2 million tons, reports Bloomberg citing the government website.

According to the VFA Chairman, the association's members have contracted to ship nearly 842,000 tons of rice in August, up about 115% y/y.

In January-August 2017, VFA's members have shipped 3.8 million tons of rice, out of the contracted 5.1 million tons, according to the official.

On September 8, Oryza reported that Vietnam's General Customs Office is estimating the country's rice exports in the first eight months of 2017 at around 4.1 million tons, up about 24% from last year.

Vietnam exported 4.9 million tons of rice in 2016.
